Founding
Philosophy
West
Orange College received full
institutional approval as a postsecondary institution , by
the Council for Private |
Postsecondary
and Vocational Education State
of California in 1994.* The name of the state
regulatory agency was later changed from
Council for Private Postsecondary and
Vocational Education to the Bureau
for Private Postsecondary and Vocational
Education. The founder of West Orange College
(himself an immigrant), faculty and staff
firmly believe that any person, who has
the ability, desire and determination to
complete a vocational training program and
greatly benefit from such an
education
in pursuit of American |

dream,
should be given the opportunity to do so. In
the age of Information Superhighway, the need
for obtaining vocational training is
particularly great for the newly immigrated
individuals without a marketable skill. Most
of all, their linguistic handicap further
compounds their difficulty. WOC was founded to
offer educational programs that provide
two-prong solutions to easing their problems:
(a)
intensive, short-term educational programs in
computer operation to enhance their
employability, and (b) three levels of English
as a Second Language programs to develop functional
fluency in the English language.

for many nationally-ranked universities, and
numerous cultural and recreational
establishments, notably, the world-known
Disneyland in Anaheim, which is about 5 miles
from the campus. The Los Angeles downtown is
about 40 miles to the north. The campus can be
easily accessed via freeways and public
transportation. |
| There are ample parking spaces
for students, staff, faculty and visitors. The
population of Orange County is diverse and
includes many different ethnic groups, such as
from Asia, Europe, Latin America and Middle
East. A year-round mild climate is
particularly conductive for outdoor activities,
such as golf, tennis, surfing, sun
bathing, snow boarding, mountain climbing,
rollerblading, and hiking. |
